Acquisition with attribution: which channel brings clients, and which just brings clicks

The ad agency reports clicks, content reports reach, SEO reports rankings — and nobody reports which of the three brought the client who signed.

Every piece reports its metric; nobody reports clients

The ad agency reports clicks. Whoever does content reports reach. SEO reports rankings. Everyone hits their number — and you still don't know which of the three brought the client who signed. When marketing is bought in pieces, each piece optimizes its own thing. An acquisition system optimizes exactly one: closed clients per channel.

Attribution breaks at WhatsApp's door

In Latin America the lead doesn't land on a form: it lands on WhatsApp. And that's where traceability dies — the ad click gets recorded; the “hi, I saw the dress” doesn't. The fix is simple mechanics: a distinct link per campaign, the ad's identifier captured on entry, and the origin written into the lead's record from the first message. It isn't sophisticated. It's discipline at the door.

The number that orders everything: cost per closed client

Not cost per click, not per lead: per client who signed. With origin recorded and clear stages — lead, conversation, proposal, closed — that number computes itself, and it reorders budgets without an argument. A channel that's expensive per click can be the cheapest per client. And the cheap channel that never closes isn't cheap: it's spending dressed up as saving.

What AI adds (and what it doesn't)

It isn't publishing more volume: it's reading the whole funnel. Qualifying the lead on entry — budget, urgency, fit — before it consumes your team's hours; detecting which content brings leads that close, not leads that applaud; and preparing the follow-up for the one that went cold. AI doesn't invent demand: it orders the demand already arriving, and tells you where to buy more of it.

Where to start (without buying anything)

This week: define your funnel stages and write down the origin of every new lead — by hand if needed, asking “how did you find us?”. A month later you have your first cost per closed client per channel. With that: double the one that closes, kill the one that only makes noise. An acquisition system doesn't start with tools: it starts with that origin column nobody fills today.
